English Comp FREAKIN OUT!

Okay....this is going to be my support line! lol Mary, Lisa and Debbie have all been through English Comp. This online stuff looks crazy. Did I make a HUGE mistake taking this course online? lol Our first lesson says write a short essay on whether or not you should vote when you turn 18. Okay...I did it...np...but NO WHERE does it say how long it should be. I have read every single section twice! A short essay...is that 1 page? And our first essay is to be augrumentative...fine...but that isn't even covered until the end of our book...so this is an assessment on what we know I guess. Not to mention...I would like to read about proper grammar first..comma's and all that. Man...I am a detail person....I like to know exactly what my teacher expects of me and exactly how to do my work...I am going to cry! Also...it says assignments are due according to the assignment schedule. The assignment schedule folder is empty.

Okay...breathe........

Oh and can you really write your opinion?? What if she disagrees strongly?? Which I know SHOULD not happen....we are in college. We should be able to write what we really feel without fear of being judged on our opinion. But I do remember Jan saying she doesn't allow people to write about guns because she can not grade without a bias. But not knowing this teacher...I dont know what she likes or dislikes. Shouldn't we be graded solely on our grammar....our ability to write effectively. So do u write how u really feel or do u write what you THINK your teacher will like. hmmm??

  1. OK Lisa, BREATHE........Now first off I would contact the teacher by email and ask his/her expectation of a short essay and where the assignment schedule is.

Secondly, go to www.chompchomp.com this will help you with your grammer.

Third, I have the Harbrace handbook that was given to us when we took Comp I if you want to borrow it. It is very boring to read but it might help you. I have class tomorrow at 1:00 so call me if you want me to bring it.

Fourth, Your opinion should not matter as long you write about the subject given but the content of your essay should not stray from the intended subject or your instructor might not like your essay.

Fifth, get help at VUJC with your essays

    Sixth, BREATHE

  2. Thank you Debbie! I do have a handbook...I am reading now. Just got excited earlier. lol But...that's me. I want to email the instructor...but not bug her already...if it isn't posted tomorrow, I will. Thank you for the tip on the website...I will use it.

I knew I could count on you to calm me down! lol

I am making it relaxing...laying out in the sun to read my chapters and handbook! Get too hot...jump in the pool!

  4. Well, I got a glimpse of what was to come in Acct I online and chickened out! Bauk Bauk Bauk (Not sure how you spell it but you get the drift!) LOL

So I was not surprised when I saw your post!

I decided to take Acct I at VUJC since it was on the same day as Human Bio which I switched to instead of Sociology. I am now taking Sociology with Sherry Reeves this fall. Are you in that class or will I be there all alone?

Glad to hear that you have calmed down, I was afraid I was going to have to come to Jasper with a pitcher of Margaritas and a box of humor to cheer you up! (Hey that doesn't sound all that bad!) The pool doesn't sound bad either!

    Take Care!

  6. Thank you Mary...once all the writing starts, I may very well need you.

LOL Debbie~~ if you are coming down with a pitcher of margaritas...then NO I am NOT better! LOL

Bauk Bauk lmao funny...least I am not alone.

Yes I will be in Sociology with you. Margaret too...if she is still here...she may be moving..dont know yet about her. But I am really glad you will be there especially if Margaret is leaving...Now we wont be alone! lol

Yeah...those online classes...they do look freaky...I always hear they are easy. But I think it is overwhelming at first because you don't have the teacher right there to tell you things and answer questions. If you have a question on here...it can take days for it to be answered...probably AFTER you did it on your own. Everything has its Pros and Cons..I refuse to let this class get the best of me.

  9. Yes yes...it is better Jan!

Today, I just received my first 4 assignments back. I was bellyaching WITH tears the other day telling my husband this class was going to ruin my straight A's... I know it sounds lame...but it was really bothering me.

But..I was wrong. I doubt myself constantly. Too many years of thinking I was stupid..I did drop out of high school yanno. But anyway...
I wanted to share my good news with someone!

Summary 1...comment by teacher "Overall, you did an excellent job on the summary. Nice work. 90%"
....not my best but I will take it! Had some comma splices and stuff in there!

Summary 2...comment by teacher..brought me to tears.."Wow, for a person who has never written a summary, you really did a beautiful job on this one. Can I use yours as an example on blackboard for our class? Many people struggle with this assignment, but you are right on target. Great work. I really look forward to reading your work. 100%".....I replied...omg omg..of course you may use it!

Essay 1...on whether or not people should vote..."Applaud! Applaud! You are so right. 49/50 98%

And best for last...My narrative essay. I had no clue if I was even understanding what the teacher expected...I wrote this...my rough draft, fully expecting many revisions...This was about when I had to do CPR on my father-in-law and he died. I titled it..."A Ten Minute Eternity".....teacher comments were " I love your title! Wow, this is so poignant; it brought tears to my eyes. You are an excellent writer, and I can tell, an excellent person. Your story is filled with excellent details, and you have great organization. 100%"

100% on my first draft! I am so happy you have no idea...knowing I was crying thinking I was stupid.....

    I have issues. lol
