Mom had surgery on Monday the 8th....she is doing well physically...a little harder emotionally than she thought...I knew it would be:( We still don't have the pathology report, so there is still so many unanswered questions. She will meet again with the surgeon on Monday and we hope to know something then.
She decided to attend a birthday party for a little girl of some friends of ours. I think she enjoyed getting out for a while, but was tired when she got home...we all were, so we took an afternoon siesta....man I love naps..lol
Lisa and Debbie...how are things on your end? Hope to see you two this next week!
Hey Mary, I was glad to hear things went okay in surgery. I think emotions can wear you out faster than anything...but it is good for the spirits to get out and do something. Mom is the same way, she goes full speed one day, and the next day or two she is exhausted. It is a pattern she has come to expect.
They (as in all her doctors) have decided to go with a hormone blocker for Mom and see how that goes for 3 months. They are keeping a close eye on the situation and hope this keeps the cancer contained to the one lymph node, or may even starve it, since her cancer feeds on hormones. The pill she takes is making her sick to her stomach, so she takes it at night so she won't be sick during the day, cause you know, she just has too much to do! We went yesterday to celebrate my brother's birthday, and between all us sisters, Mom didn't have to do anything. I knew she was feeling bad because she didn't even try to boss us! (it is a family joke, Mom just keeps us all in line! Even her pastor calls her "the General") So...she is kind of hanging in limbo for a while.
I am for sure going to try to come in for some tutoring this week.
Well mom went for her post surgery appointment and she is healing well, they took out the staples and drain tubes today...still have many unanswered questions. They did tell us that they removed 17 lymph nodes and 8 were cancerous. Still don't know what stage she is in...the doctor didn't have that info on him...ugh. Good news is that she will get her treatments in Jasper...she is quite happy about that....not as long of a trek for her to make.
It was really good to see you today Debbie and get the update on your mom, you should post and let everyone else know too:)
Sorry I didn't get to talk to you much today Lisa...but I'm there the next two days. How did you do on your first psych test?
Mom is eating well and in good spirits. She has her first meeting the the Chemo doctor this wednesday june 24. we will know more then and will post. she is finally sleeping flat and back in her own bed.
I've been busy doing "mom duty" as well. My mother has had two heart catheterizations. The first was halted when she had agitation from the sedative. The second cath was to insert two stints in closed arteries. Now we wait at least 12 weeks so that we can have a hip replacement. It's a wild ride, and as the nearby caregiver, driver, nurse, scheduler, and life manager, well... I can't believe June is almost gone.
Sick/needy moms are as time-consuming as babies! Good luck to all the caregiviers out there!
I feel your pain Jan!....really..I live beside my sick mother-in-law and sister-in-law. Mom has bad kidneys and is in wheelchair...sis has severe cerbral palsy...I did all the things u listed as well..power of attorney, baths, change diapers...ect. It is very time consuming. It takes a strong and wonderful person to help people who need so much.
Good luck to you all.
I hope you and your mom's get through anything life throws your way. Keep those heads up.
Bad News.........We met with the chemo doctor today. Mom has an aggressive form of breast cancer and she is a stage 3a. She will have to have radiation with the chemo... Saturday we will go for a "PET" scan to see if it has spread. She will start chemo on July 2. treatments will end around December 15th.
Skip and Mary.... So very sorry to read this. This journey is one no one would choose, and yet you will have many friends with you as you encounter each challenge. Even stage 3a is curable these days.... Sending healing thoughts your way. Jan
Well...looks like ALL have left the Sandbox... Mom had blood test yesterday. NOT good.. her white blood count was .5 which is extremely low, they gave her a mask and told her to go home and stay away from people. she is scheduled to have the next chemo on July 16th.
